About Us
We Are The People
The Urban Law School is a revolutionary legal education and documentation preparation service founded by Jonah Sanders a former felon who has risen to become one of the most recognized legal professionals in the world. As the only individual to have written two complete law book series, and having helped over 300 individuals gain relief through post-conviction litigation, Sanders brings lived experience and unmatched academic insight to legal education.
We are not attorneys. We are legal scholars, researchers, and documentation specialists who operate within the bounds of the law, providing powerful support and legal backing for individuals seeking justice. Our mission is to educate, empower, and equip the everyday person—especially those from marginalized communities—with the tools to navigate the legal system effectively.
At The Urban Law School, we specialize in legal document preparation, educational courses, and academic support for those pursuing justice through pro se litigation, appeals, and post-conviction relief. We believe that knowledge is power, and we aim to be a bridge between the law and the people who need it.
Under federal and state laws, non-attorneys are allowed to provide certain legal-related services, as long as they do not practice law or present themselves as licensed attorneys. Here’s what supports your model:
1. Legal Document Preparation Services (LDPs)
Under laws like the First Amendment and various state statutes, non-lawyers can act as Legal Document Preparers or Legal Document Assistants (LDAs):
California Business and Professions Code § 6400 et seq. — Allows non-lawyers to prepare legal documents for consumers if registered with the county and with proper disclosures.
Florida Supreme Court Advisory Opinion (2002) — Recognizes the role of non-lawyers in assisting with document preparation, provided no legal advice is given.
Georgia (and many other states) follow similar guidelines: LDPs can help clients fill out legal forms and provide general information, but cannot offer advice tailored to a specific case.
2. Legal Information vs. Legal Advice
Legal Information refers to facts about the law, court procedures, and rights that are public knowledge. Sharing this is protected speech under the First Amendment.
Legal Advice, by contrast, involves interpreting the law as it applies to an individual's specific situation—this is what only licensed attorneys may do.
According to the American Bar Association and various court rulings:
> “Telling someone what the law is or where to find it is legal information. Telling someone what to do based on their circumstances is legal advice.”
3. U.S. Supreme Court Precedent
NAACP v. Button, 371 U.S. 415 (1963): Legal assistance and dissemination of legal knowledge is a form of protected expression under the First Amendment.
